The Village Lodges are a subsidiary of Size Investments Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned Zimbabwean entity which is currently operating in Gweru. Incorporated in 1993, the company business portfolio includes hospitality, agriculture, hardware and bricks & related products. The Village Lodges is a dynamic hospitality group aiming at providing exclusive products and services globally.
The Directorate needed an up-market restaurant but on acquiring the land they thought of an upmarket lodge. Consequently, construction of The Village Lodge began in January 2006. Initially this was a way of investing in properties that would mark a growth for the entire investment. The Village Lodge was officially opened in February 2007, although the first guest checked in on the 31st of January 2007. Operations commenced whilst major structural developments were still underway. By February, only four chalets were complete but with only one chalet being ready for occupation. The number of rooms grew to seventeen by July the same year. Year 2008 and 2009 saw a slight move in room growth; only five rooms were added on the block, registering twenty-two rooms available.
The Year 2010 saw an addition of six rooms. The growth continued in year 2011 in which eighteen deluxe suites were added, coming in with a new aura to defining the Village lifestyle. The introduction of block lodges which are under tile with Victorian furnishings brought with it a new market altogether. To date, the product has forty-six rooms which comprise of the executive suite, honeymoon suite, deluxe and standard rooms.
Year 2010 saw the coming in of The Village Escape; located some twenty-seven kilometers along the Gweru-Mvuma road, at the Whitewaters Dam. The Escape boasts of a pristine piece of untainted land with exciting outdoor activities that are ideal for all and sundry. A visit to Gweru wouldn’t be complete without a trip to this resort spot.
The Suburban Village joined the growing block in June 2012 through acquisition with only fifteen rooms in operation. The lodge used to be called Twin Peaks Chalets and Restaurant offering accommodation and food. These few operational years have seen the number of rooms increasing to twenty-six rooms, a modest state of the art conference facility, an elegantly furnished restaurant, and an executive boardroom. The facility has restored conference business sanity in the City of Progress and has drawn a lot of business not only from the Midlands Province but across the whole country.
Since its establishment, The Village Lodges has - on various platforms- won a handful of awards. To date, these are some
Many conferences have been held at The Village Lodges over the years, including hosting national events like the Chiefs’ Congress in 2014. It would be folly not to pat ourselves on the back for hosting very important dignitaries who have either strolled in the gardens of The Village Lodge, or treated themselves to a hearty meal in the restaurant and even better, had a good night’s rest in one of our befitting suites.
